Comment-to-DM automation
Comment-to-DM automation sends a direct message to someone after they comment on an Instagram post, reel or Live, usually when the comment contains a chosen keyword. On Instagram it runs on Meta's private replies feature, which lets a professional account send one message in reply to each comment within 7 days. If the person answers, a normal conversation opens and more messages can follow inside the 24-hour messaging window.
How it works, step by step
A creator asks people to comment a word such as GUIDE. Instagram sends a webhook notification for each new comment to the connected app. The app checks the text for the keyword and, on a match, sends a private reply addressed to the comment's ID. Meta's response includes the commenter's Instagram-scoped ID, which the app can use for later messages once the person writes back.
Why creators use it
It delivers a link, a guide or a discount code the moment someone asks, without the creator answering hundreds of comments by hand. It also moves the exchange into the DMs, where the person can ask a question or reply with an email address. How Instagram ranks the post afterwards is up to Instagram, and no tool can promise more reach.
What it cannot do
It cannot message people who never interacted with the account, and it cannot send a second message to a commenter who has not replied. Replies to comments older than 7 days are not allowed, and Live comments can only be answered while the broadcast is running. If the commenter does not follow the account, the message lands in their message requests.
